Management of the Overhead Athlete

Featured speaker is Kevin Griggs, PT, MPT, OCS.

The course is designed for Physical Therapists, Athletic Trainers, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, and Occupational Therapy Assistants. The course is an intermediate course which will include a brief review of anatomy but an emphasis on current concepts in evaluating and treating the overhead athlete. The course will have lab time so proper attire for lab is recommended. By utilizing a combination of lecture and interactive lab sessions this program will provide an entertaining and challenging learning opportunity for those involved with managing athletes. Participants will

  • Understand the anatomy involved with an overhead athlete
  • Identify pathology of Overhead Athletes
  • Discuss Intervention strategies for the athlete returning to participation from a shoulder injury
  • Identify the role of the scapula in the overhead athlete
  • Discuss Elbow Pathology and Management Options

7:30 a.m. - Registration
8 a.m. - Introduction
8:15 a.m. - Anatomy review
9 a.m. - Role of the Scapula (Lecture and Lab)
10 a.m. - Throwing Shoulder: Pathology and Treatment (Lecture and Lab)
11 a.m. - Elbow Pathology and Management Options (Lecture and Lab)
11:45 a.m. - Core/Core/Core and more Core
12:30 p.m. - Review and Questions


Parking: Parking is available in Lot 45 on Grand Avenue. A permit is required to park in this lot. The cost of parking is included in your registration fee but you will have to pick up the permit at registration. Sorry no permits will be mailed. You can park your car, pick up permit at registration and take it back to your car. There is 15 minute parking on State Street (east of Health Services) if you prefer to run in a pick up the permit then park your car. However, there are limited 15 minute parking spots. Campus map.
