American Mathematics Olympiad Banner

The American Mathematics Olympiad (AMO) is an international math competition for elementary, middle and high school students, grades 2 through 11/12. Organized by the Singapore International Mastery Contest Center (SIMCC) and Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU), 2021 will be the first time the competition is conducted in the USA.

Promoting a deeper understanding of math with a framework based on Common Core State Standards, professional educators from SIU have designed a curriculum to challenge and promote interest in math through the American Mathematics Olympiad (AMO) international math competition. Tests will be provided to registered students/schools just prior to the selected test date, tests are paper versions, online options are not available for the AMO 2021 competition. 

Awards and prizes include university scholarships, Global Scholars Program and International Junior Honor Society memberships, tuition grants and internships. All students are invited to participate, whether you attend a public, private, charter or home-based school. Students who score is in the top 20% will be invited to participate in the international competition hosted online in Singapore, January 8, 2022! 

During the dates of October 16 – November 14, take the test at your school or at special testing events such as at the SIU campus. Register at least two weeks prior to the test date you select.  Select dates for on-campus testing options at SIU, are available for grades 6-12, see side bar for details.

    FREE! Registration costs will be waived for the first 1,000 students who register for the competition. Registration must be submitted at least two weeks prior to the preferred test date.  Note test dates are listed as workshops in the online registration.

    $10 per student, Grades 2 through 5

    $15 per student, Grades 6 trhough 11/12

    AMO would apprecates the hard work and dedication provided by the follwing individuals in creating the Info Pack and the AMO test curriculum:

    • SIU STEM Education Research Center staff under the supervision of Dr. Lingguo Bu and Dr. Harvey Henson.
    • SIMCC management staff.

  • SIU On-Campus Test

    Junior and Senior High students may test on-campus at SIU Carbondale on the select dates.  NOTE, you must be registered and receive confirmation from AMO to be eligible for the on-campus test.
