Society of Physics Students Zone 8

All SPS chapters are invited to attend the Spring 2024 meeting for Zone 8. The meeting will focus on the upcoming total solar eclipse which will be visible from Texas to Maine on April 8, 2024. This meeting will be a great opportunity to learn about the upcoming eclipse and to share outreach and research plans that are being developed by campuses across our region.

Feb. 23-24, 2024, SPS Zone 8 Spring Meeting:

Taking Advantage of this Mega Physics &
Astronomy Outreach Opportunity, 
at SIU Carbondale

 SPS members attending the conference are encouraged to present:
(1) projects they are involved in related to the 2023 annular eclipse or the upcoming 2024 total solar eclipse, or
(2) research they are working on in any field of physics or astronomy.  

Attendees can indicate a preference for either an oral presentation or a poster presentation.  There are limited oral presentation slots, so conference organizers reserve the right to convert a requested oral presentation to a poster presentation.

PRESENTATION SUBMISSION

• Friday night social with food and telescope viewing from the SIU astronomy deck.
• Saturday keynote speaker to talk about research related to solar eclipses.
• Hands-on workshop focused on outreach activities that can be incorporated into local eclipse events.
• Talks and a poster session on eclipse-related research and plans for eclipse outreach events.
• Poster session on research being conducted in all fields of physics and astronomy.
