SIU Summer Piano Competition

  • Senior Division (Grades 9 and above in Fall 2024)

    Prizes

    1st Place:

    • Performance during the 2024 camp’s Showcase Recital
    • A certificate and cash prize of $125
    • Piano scholarship if in high school and entering SIU in Fall 2024 or Fall 2025 as a piano major toward Bachelor of Music*

    2nd Place:

    • Performance during the 2024 camp’s Showcase Recital
    • A certificate and cash prize of $90
    • Piano scholarship if in high school and entering SIU in Fall 2024 or Fall 2025 as a piano major toward Bachelor of Music*

    3rd Place:

    • Performance during the 2024 camp’s Showcase Recital
    • A certificate and cash prize of $55
    • Piano scholarship if in high school and entering SIU in Fall 2024 or Fall 2025 as a piano major toward Bachelor of Music*

    *The amount of scholarship will be determined by the jury and is awarded on the condition that the recipient is enrolled in studio piano instruction at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Scholarships are awarded on an annual basis and are renewable.

  • Junior Division (entering Grades 5-8 and above in Fall 2024):

    Prizes

    1st Place:

    • Performance during the 2024 camp’s Showcase Recital
    • A certificate and cash prize of $100

    2nd Place:

    • Performance during the 2024 camp’s Showcase Recital
    • A certificate and cash prize of $70

    3rd Place:

    • Performance during the 2024 camp’s Showcase Recital
    • A certificate and cash prize of $40
  • Requirements

    *All campers are required to email the completed application form to Dr. Junghwa Lee by June 15 for priority; or by July 5 if the student can learn newly assigned piano 4-hands (two piano ensemble; or one piano 4-hands for siblings as an option) music quickly, in order to be assigned their piano ensemble music. All students are required to purchase their assigned ensemble music upon receipt of the assignment email of their ensemble repertoire and practice them prior to the beginning of the piano camp to be ready for the first rehearsal on the first day of camp.

    Monday-Thursday - 9am-4:15pm
    Friday - 9am-5pm

  • Registration

    After you receive an acceptance letter (via email) from Dr. Junghwa Lee; postmarked by July 5 to guarantee your spot; enrollment fee will NOT be refunded after July 5.

    Application fee: $10

    Enrollment fee: $250

    All students are required to purchase their assigned ensemble music upon receipt of the acceptance letter and practice them prior to the beginning of the piano camp to be ready for the first rehearsal on July 18th.

    PROGRAM FEES:

    • Application Fee - $10 (non-refundable) for all campers
    • Enrollment Fee - $250*(non-refundable after July 5)

     Application Deadline: Applications received via email by June 15, will be given priority; applications will be accepted until July 5. Please email your completed application form to Dr. Junghwa Lee at jlee@siu.edu

    You may pay both the $10 non-refundable application fee and the $250 enrollment fee online, by phone, or fax. 

  • Parking

    Parking permits can be purchased at an additional cost of $5 per day (rates subject to change; Monday through Friday) totaling $25 for the camp week if the reservation is made by July 5 (no parking passes available after this date since the music office needs to obtain it separately from the parking division). If preferred, there are meter parking spaces near Woody Hall which is available at hourly rates.
